Series production of medical implants with 3D printing

CFK has been manufacturing medical implants from titanium using 3D printing (laser melting) since 2006. It all started with customized hearing aid shells, which still offer patients with allergies an alternative to conventional plastic. We have also been manufacturing vertebral fusion bodies with integrated lattice structures for improved osseointegration since 2008 in x different versions as ALIF, PLIF, TLIF or cervical spine cages. In the area of hip joints, over 300 patients have been treated with individual hip shells that were designed by our customers from CT data and also have adapted lattice structures for osteointegration. In close cooperation with the customer, CFK has developed suitable process parameters for all the cases shown and validated and documented the manufacturing processes accordingly so that they meet the relevant guidelines.
